Power

The Nunavut Power Corporation supplies the town with electricity produced by stand-alone diesel generators.

All electricity needs in Nunavut are met by imported fossil fuel supplies.  The Nunavut Power Corporation is the only energy corporation in Canada without developed local energy resources or regional electricity transmission capability, creating a situation of huge fossil fuel dependency.

Fuel Resupply

The Government of Nunavut is responsible for the purchase, transportation, storage, and distribution of all Petroleum Products in Nunavut.

Tankers anchor in Pangnirtung Fiord and pump fuel via an underwater pipeline to the tank farm for storage. Typically, two tankers will offload in Pangnirtung each summer.

The four primary fuel products delivered are diesel, gasoline, Jet A-1 fuel and naphtha.
